Hackensack, N.J., January 10, 2008 – Quick & Simple magazine highlighted the Imus Ranch GTC (Greening The Cleaning®) Citrus Sage laundry detergent at its 2nd annual New Product Awards at the Hearst Tower in New York City. The Quick & Simple New Product Award was presented to Deirdre Imus (center) by Editor-in-Chief Susan Toepfer (left) and Publisher Bernadette Haley.
“We reviewed and tested hundreds of products and selected the winners based on innovation and the ability to make our readers’ lives easier and simpler," said Toepfer. The 20 new products selected were required to be: 1) innovative, clever, and groundbreaking, 2) save women time and money, 3) easy to use, and 4) affordable.
"A greener future begins at home," Ms Imus said. "The small changes we make today can make a difference to the health of our families -- and they set an important example for our children."
Deirdre Imus is the founder and President of the Deirdre Imus Environmental Health Cente® , part of Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) in New Jersey, a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit corporation. The Environmental Health Center represents one of the first hospital-based programs whose specific mission is to identify, control, and ultimately prevent exposures to environmental factors that may cause adult, and especially pediatric cancer, as well as other health problems with our children.
Toepfer also praised Ms. Imus for "helping people incorporate eco-friendly, green thinking into their lifestyles." Last year, Ms. Imus' book, Green This! Volume 1: Greening Your Cleaning, became a New York Times bestseller. The book, the first volume in a Green This! series by Ms. Imus, features tips on keeping homes safe and healthy with eco-friendly cleaning practices without sacrificing quality or investing time or money.
“The senior editors and I appreciated that Deirdre’s approach to going ‘green’ isn’t a dictatorship,” Toepfer said. “Deirdre helps people change their habits at a gentle pace that they’re comfortable with and she also understands that if we’re going to change products to be environmentally safe, the replacement products need to work.”
Both household and institutional Greening The Cleaning® lines are available. The household line, available in stores nationwide and through imusranchfoods.com , includes: Imus' GTC Citrus Sage laundry detergent, Imus' GTC Citrus Sage general purpose cleaner and Imus' GTC Citrus Sage glass cleaner. One hundred percent of all profits for the Greening The Cleaning® retail line go to the Imus Cattle Ranch for Kids with Cancer, a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit.
Greening The Cleaning® means eliminating to the greatest extent possible, all cleaning agents containing hazardous ingredients and replacing them with naturally-derived ingredients with the least level of toxicity. These products are made from natural or naturally-derived ingredients, are readily biodegradable, and contain no phosphates, and no known or suspected human carcinogens, mutagens and teratogens. Unlike most cleaning products sold today, Greening The Cleaning® products list all ingredients right on the label.
Ms. Imus is also co-founder and co-director of The Imus Cattle Ranch for Kids with Cancer, an authentic 4,000 acre working cattle ranch in northern New Mexico, which provides the experience of the American cowboy to children suffering from cancer and various blood diseases, as well as to children who have lost a brother or sister to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
The New Product Award winners will appear in the January 29, 2008, issue of Quick & Simple, on newsstands January 15. Quick & Simple is a trusted weekly national magazine, published by Hearst Corporation, which provides smart solutions to value-conscious women who care about health, home, food, diet, deals, money, beauty, fashion, relationships, and entertainment.
One hundred percent of all profits from Greening The Cleaning® institutional products go to the Environmental Health Center for supporting education and research to identify, control and ultimately prevent exposures in the environment that threaten our children's health.
